Trondheim City Walk – Discover the Highlights on Foot
Where historic wooden houses meet modern architecture and lively neighborhoods meet peaceful river promenades - Trondheim is a city full of contrasts. On this guided Trondheim city tour, you will discover the city’s main sights, fascinating stories, and its unique atmosphere.
Start at the Cruise Harbor & Solsiden
The city walk begins at the Rockheim Museum by the harbor. From here, the tour continues past the railway station to the modern district of Solsiden, also known as Trondheim’s “sunny side.” Restaurants, cafés, and the vibrant life of locals and students shape this area.
Along the Nid River & the Colorful Warehouses
We follow the Nid River past the colorful old warehouses – one of Trondheim’s most iconic photo spots.
Bakklandet & the Unique Bicycle Lift
In the historic district of Bakklandet, once a working-class area, beautifully preserved wooden houses, cafés, and small shops line the streets. A special highlight is the world’s only Trampe Bicycle Lift, which helps visitors up the hill with ease.
Gamle Bybro, Nidaros Cathedral & City Center
Cross the famous Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro) with its red gate, also known as the “Gate of Happiness,” and enter the city center. Another popular photo stop is Nidaros Cathedral, Norway’s national monument and the northernmost Gothic cathedral in Europe (exterior visit only).
Market Square, Stiftsgården & Return to the Harbor
At Market Square (Torvet), the guide shares the story of Olav Tryggvason, the founder of Trondheim. Just behind it lies Stiftsgården, the royal residence with its beautiful park. Crossing the railway bridge and passing the Rockheim Museum, the approximately 2-hour Trondheim city tour ends back at the harbor.
